South Korea, a benchmark in state-of-the-art cycling technology

Tannus, OutBraker and LightSKIN, among others, carry South Korean technological DNA.

INTRODUCTION

If we zoom in a little on the world map and look at AsiaIn our sector, China, the great giant, the so-called factory of the world, accounts for approximately 80% of the production of bicycles and components. However, there are also other giants such as Japan with its well-established high-quality brands such as Shimano as a reference. In the middle of this map, among mega-populated and recognized countries, we find what in our point of view is the great unknown: South Korea.

R&D, BETWEEN TWO GIANTS

South Korea is surrounded by these 2 aforementioned giants and isolated in the North by its sister North Korea with which they are still officially at war. At the time of the division, North Korea was left with the richest part and natural resources and South Korea was left with nothing. When they realized that the "only" thing the peninsula had was people and brains, they decided to put all the resources into education, development and innovation.

I'm sure many of us if we haven't had the opportunity to have any interaction with South Korea tend to associate it with China.... mistake! South Korea is one of the most technologically advanced countries in the worldwith more private investment in R&D, with one of the best educational systems in the world (Top 5 in the PISA index) and one of the countries with the most patents in the world.

It is precisely the mix of these ingredients that have led to the fact that this country is producing very powerful companies and world leaders in various sectors such as the world's leading technology companies. SAMSUNG y LG or the automobile industry HYUNDAI, SSANGYONG y KIA. Although it also owns leading companies in other lesser-known sectors such as the military or energy.

KOREAN DNA = STATE-OF-THE-ART TECHNOLOGY

Obviously, the cycling and we are seeing the emergence of brands with a markedly different Korean DNA in the market: TANNUS, OUTBRAKER, HJC, LIGHTSKIN, SENA... all of them with a very technological profile and always with a high added value.

All these brands have made quality their flagship, and today when we talk about quality, we are talking about Korean quality we could very well be talking about quality comparable to German or Japanese, but superior. We briefly recall some of the developments of the above mentioned brands:

  • TannusLeading company in anti-puncture solid tires for bicycles and with countless patents. Undoubtedly one of the solutions that is causing a sensation among the entire cycling public, both off-road and road.
  • OutBrakerFirst ABS for bicycles. A safety feature very common on cars and more and more common on motorcycles that is just entering the cycling sector.
  • LightSKINDesign lights integrated in the aesthetics of the bike itself.
  • SeineHigh quality intercoms for personal mobility that after the great success in the world of motorcycling, is incorporated into the world of cycling.
  • HJCCascos, who after a long and totally ascending path in Moto GP, arrive in the world of cycling with a very fresh aesthetic and personality that many are falling in love with.
