INTRODUCTION
How does the Tires for Kenya project start?
Mid-October 2018, Ruben Gallarta sports and travel lover contacted us through social networks with a brilliant idea:
Improving the cycling situation in Iten, the home of champions.
We did not hesitate for a second to join the project and learn firsthand how we could help to make it a reality.
HOW DID THE IDEA COME UP?
Rubèn Gallart, was in Iten and had the opportunity to share a coffee with the Irish coach of the Kenyan Riders cycling team, Ciarán Fitzpatrick.
He explained to him that one of the main problems in training is punctures, and at that precise moment, the restless mind of Ruben, who knew about the existence of 100% anti-puncture tires, already knew what he had to do.
"It was enough" with an Instagram Stories, a couple of posts and an email to launch the project and a crowdfunding campaign.
THE VISIT TO ITEN
In mid-April 2019, Akrovalis CEO Sergi Belmonte together with Co-Founder Arnau Isern, fly to Iten with Rubèn to meet the team, make the delivery of the material and give a master class of the Tannus anti-puncture.
Rubèn, Arnau and Sergi with the team. The model chosen was the New Slick 700×25 in Volcano Red, a color that transmits passion and energy, the pillars of this project.
Explanation of the Tannus mounting system together with Nick Sewe, the versatile mechanic of the Kenyan Riders for the last 6 years.
Once the Master Class was done and the bikes were equipped, it was time to go out to train and say goodbye to punctures!
And of course, to go out to train, you should not miss a good equipment.
CONCLUSIONS
Tiresforkenya.com is a reality and it could not have been possible thanks to the help of all those people who have collaborated and pushed this project forward.
With very little and a lot of passion behind, small improvements like these are achieved that add quality and day to day cycling, so that in the not too distant future we can enjoy the best version of real talents on the bike.
