BICYCLE IN SUMMER: DON'T GO OUT WITHOUT KNOWING THIS!

Riding a bike in the summer during the holidays is one of the pleasures we cyclists have. We plan routes, meet up with our group, explore new paths, or simply revisit our favorite ones. However, it's important to consider some aspects to do it with maximum safety and comfort.

Prepare your bike in summer and... yourself!

There are many tips and recommendations that we think you should know before taking the bike in summer with the high temperatures that are recorded in Spain during the month of August. We all know that you have to stay hydrated, use sunscreen or try to go out early / late in the day. However, we want to share with you some tips that perhaps not everyone puts into practice and that are just as important as those mentioned above.

What do I do with my bicycle in summer?

Lighten your backpack! It seems a very simple advice but that extra weight that in winter is already noticeable, at more than 30 degrees is multiplied. Maybe not in the first kilometers, but when the sun gets stronger and you have covered more than half of the route, you will be grateful to carry those extra kilos. Put in your backpack ONLY what you really need and consider mounting a good anti-puncture tire to avoid having to repair a puncture under the sun.

We also advise you to visit your local retailer to have a good bike service in summer. We must reduce as much as possible the technical mishaps that may arise during the route to avoid wasting energy, which we know is sometimes scarce and we are going to need it! Chain well greased, check your fork seals, check the condition of your braking system and most importantly, keep it clean and dry.

What do I do with the cyclist in me?

Well, this is more difficult because there are different colors for different tastes. Taking advantage of this saying, we are going to take the opportunity to advise you that in the summertime wear light colors and breathable clothes. From helmets to jerseys, cycling shorts, gloves, socks ... safety and protection elements that must always be worn even in hot weather.

It is also very important to eye protection. We should not go cycling in summer without sunglasses. The UV rays emitted by the sun are more intense in summer and can cause eye injuries. In addition, sunglasses protect us from the wind when we ride at high speed and act as an anti-insect screen. Oh, and if they are goggles cool we will stand out in the small group.
